Synopsis

In this special edition of Not Forgotten, Ian Hislop explores the powerful and often overlooked stories of conscientious objectors during the First World War, from those who served in non-combat roles to the "Absolutists" who refused any support of the war effort. Through visits to memorials, battlefields, and personal archives, he uncovers stories of courage, stigma, and sacrifice, asking whether those who refused to fight should be honoured alongside those who did.
